I helped improve the content and presentation of our newscasts by taking lots of numbers and complex topics and simplifying them down into consumable pieces. Making the news pieces more entertaining and easier to understand. Most of these were created start-to-finish in an hour or two.

These are a collection of some of those explainers.

Reporter Jon Mills covered what the consequences of a local dam breaking would be. These are some of the visuals I made to help illustrate his points.

In this piece with anchor Nick LaFave, we compare the US and Canadian health care systems. I use After Effects and Character Animator for all the animations except for the initial bridge animation which was done by The Tank, TEGNA's corporate graphics hub.

Here is a collection of various animated explainer pieces. I try to keep a clean, consistent look to best illustrate what is being talked about. The music track is an AI audio track I created in Suno.

I had to recreate the iconic NBA Jam moments in this piece highlighting one of the game's creators.

One of the key pieces we helped the news department with was lack of video. Sometimes they didn't have what they needed to tell the story, so we stepped in and made it entertaining.

This selection was from a story about the status of bussing in local districts. I made the animation in After Effects over the course of an afternoon.

A great example of making the numbers tell a visual story. People tune out when they hear numbers. They can't picture what exactly they're saying, so putting this kind of information in a stylized visual piece is more useful and interesting.

Just by watching this piece without audio, one can see the story being told. Paired with the audio, it helps reinforce the numbers and what is actually happening in the community. Done with After Effects, Axis Maps, and Premiere.
